Sam and I had a date night out to a bar with a rooftop view and it did not disappoint. There's Dallas all lit up in the background! One of my favorite pictures so far from down here.
We were VERY excited about Labor Day and even had plans to go the lake, however Shiner contracted Kennel Cough at day care and we had to stick around to take care of her. #FurbabyLife
We had to come up with other Labor Day plans for the weekend and I heard about this wildlife center where you could drive through a safari type atmosphere and feed animals. So... we clearly had to do it. The animals loved coming up to the cars and even stuck their heads/noses in.
We were really excited for the zebras and were scared we wouldn't be able to get very close. But, sure enough, a group of zebras swarmed our car. We even got to touch this one's nose when he stuck it in the car! Touch a zebra: CHECK!
I had the hope of getting a giraffe to stick it's neck in our sun roof, but sadly that didn't happen. We still got to see just how massive they are and how funny their tongues look. And I plan on going back and attempting this again!
Next adventure was a trip to see The Price is Right Live! I had no idea this was even a thing until I saw it on Facebook and OBVIOUSLY we had to go. I had high hopes of getting called to "Come on Down" but sadly we didn't get called. It was still a hilarious and fun night and if this show is coming near you I absolutely recommend it!
One of my favorite parts of the night was the name tags we got. Just like the real deal! Even though I DO plan on making it to the REAL deal in the future. But, this sufficed for now.
Another highlight from September was when Garth Brooks decided to play 7 shows in the span of 5 days downtown. I worked a few of them and was lucky enough to score a free ticket! Although he had started to lose his voice when I saw him on show 6/7, he was still incredible. Such a cool experience to see him on such a historical sold out tour in Dallas.
This weekend was supposed to be the weekend of the Seagull Century and I was SO excited to complete it for the second year in a row and have a mini trip home. However, Hurricane Joaquin had other plans in store. Since the ride was cancelled and I couldn't fly home and back in a hurricane, we had to make other plans, involving pumpkins and fair fun!
We took Shiner to the pumpkin patch to help us pick out some jack o' lanterns. People were taking pictures of their kids in front of the pumpkins so, duh, Shiner had to partake too. She's so small it makes me laugh, but we let her pick out her own special mini pumpkin and we can't wait to carve them!
The State Fair of Texas is in town and it is literally all everyone is talking about. So we had to try it out, and by that I mean we had to go and eat a week's worth of calories in one day. These pictures are still making my mouth drool and we will definitely be going back for more before it leaves for the year!
One of my favorite foods has always been a corn dog (which will never change!) and at the state fair they claim to have the best. This is a corny dog and it is deep fried deliciousness. Coated in ketchup, just how I like. Next up was a Frito Pie, which is basically a bowl of chili with fritos on the bottom. I'm not a huge frito fan, but this was pretty bangin.
My favorite fair food find of the day was hands down the Red Velvet Funnel Cake. Imagine a funnel cake, but about 100 times better. Red Velvet fried batter covered in icing and powdered sugar. NOM. We ate this in about 1 minute and had zero shame about it.
The staple icon of the State Fair is Big Tex. A picture doesn't do him justice. He is literally a GIANT man statue who stands and talks about the fair. His voice is a tad creepy, but I guess he just wants to make sure people understand him. It wouldn't be a trip to the State Fair without a selfie with him! (Or so I gathered from all the selfies happening.)
I almost feel guilty enjoying a perfect sunny and 80 degree day while everyone back home is dealing with wind, rain, and 50 degree weather. But hey, someone has to enjoy it, right? Here's hoping to a successful Seagull Century next year- hurricane free!!!
Until next time,
Peace, love, and fried foods,
Kendra
